The reasons for the significant odor in EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) materials can be attributed to several factors:
Additives: During EVA production, various additives like plasticizers, antioxidants, and stabilizers are incorporated to enhance processing or specific properties. These additives can emit odors when subjected to high temperatures during processing.
Incomplete Combustion Byproducts: Under high processing temperatures, partial combustion of some organic components may occur, leading to the formation of small molecular compounds such as ketones and aldehydes, which often have pungent odors.
Residual Solvents: If solvents used in processing do not fully evaporate, they can remain in the final product, contributing to its odor.
Polymer Structure and VA Content: The molecular structure of EVA and the proportion of vinyl acetate (VA) can influence the material's odor profile. Different EVA compositions exhibit varying odor characteristics.
