Difference between accelerator ns and accelerator dm

Promoter NS vs. Promoter DM:

Promoter NS:

  • NS is a delayed-action accelerator, which means it acts slower during the initial stages of vulcanization but enhances crosslinking efficiency later in the process.
  • It is suitable for natural rubber, butadiene rubber, etc., particularly for radial tire production due to its ability to provide good vulcanization flatness, reducing over-curing and enhancing tire wear resistance and crack growth resistance.
  • The use of NS often necessitates consideration of compatibility with other alkaline ingredients like zinc oxide to ensure optimal performance.
  • Demand for NS is intertwined with the development of radial tires; however, issues with raw material supply (e.g., tert-butylamine) can impact its industrial-scale production.

Promoter DM (Disulfide Benzothiazole, MBTS):

  • DM is a general-purpose accelerator, compatible with natural rubber, synthetic rubber, and reclaimed rubber, easily dispersible in compounds without causing discoloration.
  • It imparts excellent aging resistance to vulcanized rubber; however, its use may result in a bitter taste, making it unsuitable for rubber products that come into contact with food.
  • In terms of curing speed, DM might be slightly slower compared to some other accelerators, offering better processing control, especially in complex formulations or processes.
  • DM typically requires the addition of sulfur to achieve effective vulcanization.

In summary, the primary differences between NS and DM lie in their activity timing during vulcanization, the types of rubbers they're best suited for, and the characteristics of the end products. NS is geared towards later-stage effectiveness and high-performance applications like tires, while DM serves as a versatile, general-use accelerator emphasizing post-vulcanization aging resistance in a wide array of rubber goods.
